While the President gets the credit and the blame for nearly everything, the budget process is largely controlled by Congress. All spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives and it is therefore interesting to look at the 'surpluses' in the Clinton years in light of the Republican control of the House from 1995 on. The quotes around the surpluses reflects the unusual and I think misleading way in which Social Security income and spending is allocated.
It surprises me how passionate and irate some of our neighbors get over our politics. I am interested on occasion in what happens in Canada and Mexico, but I seldom think myself qualified to post rants about their politics which I'm sure I don't understand well at all, despite having been involved in the paper industry in both countries for two decades.
Oh, and the comment about all our debt is all too true. Bad luck for you.
